In the studio where we paint, there's very harsh overhead lighting. For the long pose, we turn off the overheads and put spot lighting around the studio, in an attempt to get interesting shadows on the model. One result is that I furiously paint away in the dim lighting, only to stagger back in surprise at the lurid colors I've used when the overheads are turned back on. It's probably good for me, though.
That's funny. I was about to say I love the colours. Now, I read you weren't aware of using them! I think they are great. I have been painting " in the dark" myself , that is, in dim light and it's helping alot with Imp's skirt. I'm finally understanding "tone" too
ReplyDeleteWell, I think it's a good thing. It's loosening up my ideas of what colors I can use. I was getting sick and tired of pink, pink and pink.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a very good thing...you even have different temperatures of skin! Also dim light breaks things down to simpler forms
